Amazon has proven to be a very popular destination for shoppers online. Retailers like Walmart have tried to compete with Amazon online and so far have been unable to match the e-tail giants prowess in shipping items quickly all over the country. Walmart plans to change that and is working on building out more distribution centers to make that plan happen.
Walmart recently opened a new distribution center in Texas that will ship online orders all over the country. Other distribution centers will come online this year. Walmart executives say that these distribution centers will help it to match Amazon in online shipping times and product range. The executive believes that within two years Walmart will be able to match Amazon.
The comments about the Walmart distribution center plans came from e-commerce CEO Neil Ashe. Ashe says that Walmart will be able to give users a mix of in store and online purchasing that Amazon can’t match. He also noted that competing in the online market against Amazon isn’t a side project.
Ashe said, “This is not a side project. This is how we will be serving customers going forward.”
