Police in the UK are looking into a way to use Amazon Alexa enabled devices to fight crime. The Lancashire Constabulary are looking to use the Amazon devices to provide crime updates to the public.
The plan is that in by doing so they will be able to cut down on the number of calls that they receive in their call centers. The police are looking to use Alexa to tell people about incidents in their local area, which could lead to the reduction in the amount of people reporting the same crime.
The police are also looking to provide information about missing people and more through the Alexa app on their smartphones. Lancashire Police’s Rob Flanagan spoke to The Sun about the plans.
“If we can reduce demand to our call centres via use of voice recognition technology and give the community the information they need without them needing to ring us, that’s massive.
“I’d like to use this for crime reporting. We’ll definitely be there by the end of 2018.”
People will be able to ask Alexa what is happening in their neighborhood and more. It certainly sounds like an interesting idea, Amazon’s Alexa enabled devices like the Echo and Echo dot are very popular in the UK.
