Sony announced a while back that they would be releasing the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for their Xperia S smartphone, although there was no specific date on when the update would be released.
Now a Sony rep has posted on the that the Android 4.0 update will be made available around the end of May or the start of June, you can see what they had to say below.
Xperia S is planned to get ICS somewhere around late May/early June. That’s what’s been said and that’s still what we’re sticking to. Any other dates (such as “June/July”) is just speculation.
The roll out is, as always, gradual and will not happen over night for all phones. Some phones might get the update in late May whilst other will get in i mid June etc
What to Expect from the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update
The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update brings a host of new features and improvements to the Xperia S. Users can look forward to a more refined user interface, enhanced multitasking capabilities, and improved performance. The update also introduces new functionalities such as Face Unlock, which allows users to unlock their phones using facial recognition technology. Additionally, the ICS update includes a revamped notification system, making it easier for users to manage their notifications.
Another significant improvement is the enhanced browser performance, which offers faster page loading times and a more intuitive browsing experience. The update also brings better integration with Google services, including improved Gmail and Google Calendar functionalities. Users will also benefit from the new data usage controls, which allow them to monitor and manage their data consumption more effectively.
Gradual Rollout and User Experience
As mentioned by the Sony representative, the rollout of the Android 4.0 update will be gradual. This means that not all Xperia S users will receive the update simultaneously. The staggered rollout is designed to ensure a smooth transition and to address any potential issues that may arise during the update process. Some users may receive the update as early as late May, while others might have to wait until mid-June.
It’s important for users to be patient during this period, as the update will bring significant improvements to their devices. Sony has emphasized that the gradual rollout is necessary to ensure that all users have a positive experience with the new software. The company is committed to providing timely updates and support to its customers, and the ICS update is a testament to this commitment.
For those who are eager to receive the update, it is recommended to regularly check for software updates on their Xperia S devices. Users can do this by navigating to the “Settings” menu, selecting “About phone,” and then choosing “Software updates.” This will allow them to see if the update is available for their device and initiate the installation process.
So it looks like we should at least get some sort of official news from Sony over the next few weeks on when the Xperia S will finally get the Android 4.0 ICS update.
