At IFA 2014 in Berlin this afternoon Sony has taken the wraps off its new Sony SmartBand Talk smartwatch which has been designed to provide users with the ability to make calls directly from their wrists as well as provide notifications and track your activity.
The Sony SmartBand Talk design is IP68 waterproof and dustproof certified and will connect to devices running Google’s latest Android 4.4 operating system via Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and Bluetooth 4.0.
Sony has fitted the SmartBand Talk with a curved 1.4-inch black and white ePaper display that is powered by an ARM Cortex-M4 32-bit processor with 2MB of internal flash memory. Together with a built-in microphone and speaker for voice calls. With a battery capable of powering the wearable for up to 3 days on a single charge, Sony explains :
“New built-in accelerometer and altimeter sensor technology feels how you move – and how much – to provide an accurate overview of your daily physical activity; whether it be walking, running or climbing.
You can see how active you were and how you have been communicating, as it pulls all of your information from your smartphone and then enables you to view it on its e-paper display screen, wherever and whenever you like.”
The Sony SmartBand Talk will be available in four different colour finishes and will be priced at around $210 or €160 when it launches during the fall of this year.
