They’re really going to try and pull that off, are they? They’re going to try and use the current PSP as the technological equivalent of the 3DS and place the NGP on some distant pedestal defining a shining next generation that is so far beyond our current perception we can barely comprehend it’s majesty in order to justify the latter’s sure to be gargantuan price. At least that’s what it looks like from this interview with a Sony exec.
“The NGP features everything Sony can and wants to do today,” Sony chief Shuhei Yoshida says. “It’s a platform looking forward with great ambition. It can’t replace a platform that has already been on sale for seven years now. In terms of pricing, we can’t sell the NGP for the same price as a PSP. The PSP has become very affordable and popular, especially with younger generations,” he went on. The takeaway? You won’t afford an NGP so why not get a nice PSP instead, since it’s now the cheaper option and everything?
