Although Sony can’t even say for sure if credit card details have been compromised or not, the UK’s FFA has decided to step in and calm the fears of registered PSN users, advising that cancelling their credit cards would be premature. This comes in the wake of the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office investigation into whether Sony had deployed adequate protection for the user data it was supposed to be safeguarding.
Sony Online Entertainment have also announced that the suspected identity theft did not affect Free Realms or DC Universe Online subscribers, though they sounded slightly less than reassuring. According to SOE’s Linda Carlson, “to the best of our knowledge, no customer personal information got out to any unauthorized person or persons. We are continuing that investigation and monitoring the situation carefully; should the situation change, we will of course promptly notify you.”
