Since the launch of Skyrim VR earlier this month, it has become my favourite virtual reality game and even though the game officially doesn’t support modifications at launch, with a few tweaks it is very easy to get Skyrim VR working with most of your favourite mods. A new mod created specifically for Skyrim VR has been released this week enabling voice recognition allowing gamers to speak to NPC’s, adding even more immersion to the already fantastic virtual reality game.
The Dragonborn Speaks Naturally mod supports both Skyrim VR and Skyrim SE enabling you to recite your dialogue lines to select them. As well as add your own voice to a “voiceless protagonist” and is currently compatible with SkyrimVR 1.3.64.0 and SkyrimSE 1.5.39.0.
The Skyrim VR voice recognition mod uses your default microphone for input and thankfully doesn’t have to use the HTC Vive microphone which is not the best. The mods creator also says that to maximise speech recognition accuracy eliminate as much background owners as possible and ensure your microphone volume is turned up.
It’s creator also explains “This mod requires direct hooks into Skyrim which means it will break when Skyrim is updated. I will try to keep this mod up to date with the latest version of SkyrimVR and SkyrimSE as quickly as possible. DSN works by hooking directly into the Skyrim code where the dialogue menu is updated. It also starts a background service to handle the speech recognition. When the background service identifies the dialogue line, the Skyrim hooks execute to select the spoken line.”
