If you enjoyed making your own creations and designing and developing new prototypes you might be interested in a new desktop CNC milling machine in the form of the new open hardware project Shapeoko 2, which builds on the original design
The Shapeoko 2 has been created to be shipped as a kit which you can then assemble yourself and is available to purchase for just $299 if you are ok to provide the electronics to finish the project to your specifications.
The Shapeoko originally starter as a Kickstarter crowd funding project and using the feed back from users the new Shapeoko 2 now has an increased cutting tablet size together with other features which are explained in the video below.
“The Shapeoko 2 Mechanical kit is designed for experts that are interested in adding their own electronics or making serious modifications to suit their needs. After assembly of the Mechanical Kit, the Shapeoko will not be functional. This Shapeoko 2 kit includes the mechanical components, motors, controller, power supply, wiring, pulleys, belts, stepper cable, tools for assembly, and a spindle.”
