Earlier today we saw Samsung Flow, which is very similar to Apple’s Continuity, and now it looks like Samsung is launching another Apple-like service. This one is called Samsung Proximity, and it is similar to Apple’s iBeacon.
The Samsung Proximity service will work in a slightly different way, as retailers can offer their customers their own app for updates, although this is not a requirement, as Proximity will be built into Samsung’s software.
What is Samsung Proximity?
Samsung Proximity is a mobile marketing platform that connects consumers with places via cutting-edge Samsung location and context-aware technology.
With Samsung Proximity, visitors are able to experience rich content related to their location, and marketers can better engage with customers for increased sales and brand awareness.
Samsung Proximity leverages Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to communicate with nearby devices. This allows retailers to send targeted messages, promotions, and information directly to a consumer’s smartphone when they are in close proximity to a store or specific location within a store. This can significantly enhance the shopping experience by providing timely and relevant information to the consumer.
Benefits for Retailers and Consumers
For retailers, Samsung Proximity offers a powerful tool to engage with customers in a more personalized manner. By using location-based services, retailers can provide customized offers and promotions that are more likely to resonate with individual shoppers. This can lead to increased foot traffic, higher sales, and improved customer loyalty.
For example, a clothing store could use Samsung Proximity to notify customers about a flash sale on winter coats as they walk past the store. Similarly, a coffee shop could send a discount coupon to a customer who is nearby, enticing them to stop in for a drink.
Consumers, on the other hand, benefit from receiving relevant and timely information that can enhance their shopping experience. Instead of sifting through generic advertisements, they receive offers and updates that are pertinent to their current location and interests. This can make shopping more convenient and enjoyable.
Samsung has not revealed when their new Proximity service will launch, but the company is apparently working with a number of retailers on the service. This collaboration suggests that Samsung is committed to ensuring that Proximity is well-integrated and effective from the outset.
In addition to retail applications, Samsung Proximity could also be used in other settings such as museums, airports, and sports arenas. For instance, a museum could use Proximity to provide visitors with detailed information about exhibits as they move through the space. An airport could offer real-time updates on flight information and gate changes to travelers. Sports arenas could enhance the fan experience by providing interactive content and exclusive offers during events.
The potential applications of Samsung Proximity are vast, and its ability to deliver location-based content opens up new possibilities for businesses and consumers alike. As the technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more innovative uses for Proximity in various industries.
