Last week we heard that Samsung were investigating allegations of child labor at their suppliers, and now the company has suspended one of their suppliers.
Samsung has said that they found some evidence of child labor at one of their suppliers, you can see an official statement from Samsung at the link below.
Following the investigation, Samsung decided to temporarily suspend business with the factory in question as it found evidences of suspected child labor at the worksite. The decision was made in accordance with Samsung’s zero tolerance policy on child labor.
It is unfortunate that the allegation surfaced despite Samsung’s efforts to prevent child labor at its suppliers. As part of its pledge against child labor, Samsung routinely conducts inspections to monitor its suppliers in China to ensure they follow the commitment, and has provided necessary support.
They have also said that it will be continuing its investigations and also changing its hiring processor to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen in future.
The company has audited the supplier in question on three previous occasions since last year, although the latest audit found possible child labor and the Chinese authorities are also looking into the matter.
