As with the first game in the series Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire takes the form of a role-playing game, played from an isometric perspective. Offering players an immersive dynamic weather system and a “living, breathing world”, where “everyone will have their appointments to keep and jobs to do”. The game will include both returning and new companions and companion relationships will play a “major role” in the sequel. Four sidekicks will also be available that can travel with players, as well as the customisable boat stronghold which will serve as a mobile base for exploring uncharted islands and engage in scripted ship to ship encounters.
