Amazon has sold millions of their Alexa devices, we have two in our house and use them regularly for simple tasks like tuning the lights on and off, listening to music and more.
What I did not realize is the people at Amazon listen to recording of what we tell Alexa, I am sure many other Alexa users also did not realize this.
According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Amazon has thousand of employee around the world that help it improve its digital assistants and these people listen to voice recordings of what people ask and tell Alexa, you can see a statement from Amazon below.
“We have strict technical and operational safeguards, and have a zero tolerance policy for the abuse of our system. Employees do not have direct access to information that can identify the person or account as part of this workflow. All information is treated with high confidentiality and we use multi-factor authentication to restrict access, service encryption and audits of our control environment to protect it.”
You would think that Amazon would make it clearer that people will actually listing to what we say to Alexa, it is apparently in their terms and conditions, but this is not something I was aware of.
