Attido Mobile has unveiled a new port they have created to make Apple’s Passbook App available on Android devices, in the form of a new application called PassWallet.
PassWallet for Android works in a similar way to Apple’s Passbook and uses the “.pkpass” mime type embedded within digital receipts. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the PassWallet application and see it in action.
Features and Functionality
The developers of PassWallet explain a little more about their application, but it will be interesting to see what Apple thinks of the new PassWallet application, and how long it takes them to set the lawyers loose.
“Collect all your tickets & coupons, from flight boarding passes to coffee shop loyalty cards in one easy to use application. Introduced in Apple’s iOS 6, PKPass files will quickly become the de facto standard for mobile ticketing.”
PassWallet aims to provide a seamless experience for Android users by allowing them to store and manage their digital tickets and coupons in one place. The application supports a wide range of passes, including boarding passes, event tickets, store cards, and coupons. Users can easily import their .pkpass files into PassWallet, ensuring they have all their essential passes at their fingertips.
Compatibility and User Experience
One of the key advantages of PassWallet is its compatibility with various Android devices. The app is designed to work smoothly across different screen sizes and resolutions, providing a consistent user experience. Additionally, PassWallet integrates with other apps and services, allowing users to import passes directly from their email or download them from websites.
The user interface of PassWallet is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for users to navigate through their passes. The app also offers features such as notifications for upcoming events or expiring passes, ensuring that users never miss an important event or opportunity.
PassWallet is now available to download from the Google Play Store for free. Enjoy!
Potential Impact and Future Developments
The introduction of PassWallet to the Android ecosystem could have significant implications for the mobile ticketing industry. By providing a cross-platform solution, Attido Mobile is bridging the gap between iOS and Android users, potentially increasing the adoption of digital passes. This move could encourage more businesses to adopt the .pkpass format, knowing that their customers can access their passes regardless of their device.
However, it remains to be seen how Apple will respond to the release of PassWallet. Given that Passbook is a proprietary app, Apple may take legal action to protect its intellectual property. This could lead to a legal battle between Attido Mobile and Apple, which could impact the availability and functionality of PassWallet.
Despite these potential challenges, the release of PassWallet is a positive development for Android users who have been looking for a similar solution to Apple’s Passbook. The app’s ability to consolidate various types of passes into one convenient location makes it a valuable tool for managing digital tickets and coupons.
