Panasonic has today unveiled its new home fuel cell range that it says are more effiecnt than and cheaper than previous fuel cell solutions. The new “Ene-Farm” fuel cells have been created through a partnership between Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. and Panasonic Corporation.
The new “Ene-Farm” fuel cell co-generation systems generates its electricity through a chemical reaction between oxygen in the atmosphere and hydrogen extracted from city gas in an efficient and very eco-friendly way. Even the heat generated as a byproduct of the chemical reaction is then used for heating the home and water supply.
The name “Ene-Farm” has been created from the English words “energy” and “farm” to represent the core concept of the new fuel cell: “we can generate our own energy to use in our own homes.”
The first “Ene-Farm” started shipping in May 2009 and since then Panasonic has sold approximately 5,000 units throughout Japan. You can read the full Panasonic Fuel Cell press release on their website.
