Sprint has confirmed that the Palm Pixie will be available from the 15th of November, for $99.99 with a contract, after mail-in rebates, which seems a little expensive to us considering the Palm Pre is $150.
The Palm Pixie is Palm’s second mobile phone to run Palm’s new webOS, and it is a candy bar style phone with a built-in keyboard on the front, and it shares a lot of features with the Palm Pre.
Key Features and Specifications
The Palm Pixie features a 2.63 inch display with a resolution of 320 x 400, which is slightly smaller than the Palm Pre’s screen. Despite its compact size, the Pixie is designed to be user-friendly and efficient for everyday tasks. The device includes a 2 megapixel camera, which is a step down from the 3 megapixel camera found in the Palm Pre. However, it still offers decent photo quality for casual photography.
Other notable features include an accelerometer, which allows for automatic screen rotation, and GPS capabilities for navigation and location-based services. The Pixie also supports multi-touch gestures, making it easy to navigate through apps and menus.
Design and Usability
The Palm Pixie’s design is sleek and modern, with a candy bar form factor that makes it easy to hold and operate with one hand. The full QWERTY keyboard on the front is a standout feature, providing a tactile typing experience that is ideal for messaging and social networking. This makes the Pixie particularly appealing to users who prefer physical keyboards over virtual ones.
The device runs on Palm’s webOS, which is known for its intuitive interface and smooth performance. WebOS offers a range of features such as card-based multitasking, Synergy for integrating contacts and calendars from various sources, and a robust app ecosystem. These features make the Pixie a versatile device for both personal and professional use.
“We are excited to offer the new Palm Pixi to our customers in time for the holiday season, and it’s a great addition to Sprint’s industry-leading device portfolio,” said Kevin Packingham, senior vice president – Product Development, Sprint. “Simply put, this phone is fun and easy to use; with its multi-touch screen and full QWERTY keyboard, it’s a great device for messaging and social networking at a price everyone can enjoy, and delivers so many of the great features people love about Palm Pre™ in a fantastic new form factor, making it a huge hit for consumers.”
Market Position and Pricing
While the Palm Pixie is priced at $99.99 with a contract after mail-in rebates, some may find this a bit steep considering the Palm Pre is available for $150. However, the Pixie is aimed at a different segment of the market. It is designed for users who want a compact, easy-to-use device with a physical keyboard and robust social networking capabilities.
The Pixie’s lower price point compared to the Pre makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers who still want a feature-rich smartphone. It is also a great choice for first-time smartphone users or those looking to upgrade from a basic phone without breaking the bank.
The Palm Pixie is a well-rounded device that offers a lot of value for its price. With its sleek design, full QWERTY keyboard, and user-friendly webOS, it is a great option for anyone looking for a reliable and versatile smartphone. Whether you are a heavy texter, a social media enthusiast, or someone who needs a dependable device for everyday tasks, the Palm Pixie is worth considering.
