OnLive has today announced that their OnLive Cloud gaming service will be arriving in the UK next month on September 22nd. The Cloud based gaming service enables uses to game on tablets and HDTV’s without the need for an expensive console. The gameplay and processing that is normal carried out locally by the console, is now processed within the cloud, and already allows users to enjoy more than 100 “top tier” game titles.
The service has already been launched in the US for some time and OnLive has already partnered with a number of big game developers such as Ubisoft, THQ and Square Enix to bring block buster games to the service, such as Assassin’s Creed, Homefront and Batman: Arkham Asylum.
To use the OnLive service you can either purchase an OnLive set-top box (pictured above) or play through your iPad, Android tablet or via a Mac or PC. You will of course also need a broadband connection to connect to the cloud, but once connected you can then either rent games for limited periods, purchase unlimited access to individual games or signup for a monthly subscription.
OnLive’s Founder and CEO Steve Perlman explains:
“OnLive will utterly transform gaming in the UK,” – “No discs, big downloads or specialised hardware needed. OnLive gives you the latest games instantly, anytime, anywhere on HDTV, PC, Mac, as well as iPad, Android tablets.”
Prices for the subscription packages have yet to be released by OnLive but as soon as they become available we will keep you updated.
