The wait is finally over, for some gamers anyway, with Dead Space 2 now available to purchase in stores and online in the US. Unfortunately, Europeans will still have to wait just a few more days until 28th January before they can enjoy the new sequel.
Destructoid has already given the game an impressive 9.5 score, calling it a ‘supreme title’ and if you like a few scares during your gameplay you will not be disappointed. Watch the final trailer after the jump.
Gameplay and Features
Dead Space 2 continues the story of Isaac Clarke, the protagonist from the first game, as he battles against the terrifying Necromorphs. The game is set on the Sprawl, a densely populated space station, which provides a rich and immersive environment for players to explore. The developers have introduced new weapons and mechanics, making the gameplay more dynamic and engaging. One of the standout features is the improved zero-gravity sections, which allow for more freedom of movement and add a new layer of complexity to the puzzles and combat scenarios.
Also if you fancy a little more of a challenge EA has added a ‘real’ hardcore mode that will definitely test you to your limits. As with every hardcore mode, the monsters are tougher and near on invincible, but the main difference is that EA has now removed all the checkpoints. Oh, you do get three saves though, that can be used anywhere during the campaign. Good luck!
Critical Reception and Community Feedback
The game has been well-received by both critics and players alike. In addition to Destructoid’s high praise, other gaming outlets have lauded the game for its atmospheric tension, compelling storyline, and refined gameplay mechanics. The sound design, in particular, has been highlighted as a key element that enhances the horror experience, with eerie ambient noises and sudden audio cues keeping players on edge.
Community feedback has also been overwhelmingly positive. Fans of the original Dead Space have appreciated the improvements and new features, while newcomers to the series have found the game accessible and engaging. The multiplayer mode, a new addition to the series, has received mixed reviews, with some players enjoying the competitive aspect while others feel it detracts from the core single-player experience.
In terms of sales, Dead Space 2 has performed well, with strong initial numbers indicating a successful launch. The game’s marketing campaign, which included a series of live-action trailers and interactive web experiences, has been credited with generating significant buzz and anticipation leading up to the release.
