Microsoft has unveiled two new Xbox Live games that are now available from the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace for $2.99.
The first game, called Rise of Glory, is a World War I flight simulator that features both campaign and single-mission modes. The second game, Revolution, is more of a puzzle-solving game featuring “machines” that need to be solved by placing cogs in the correct locations. Watch videos of both games after the jump.
Rise of Glory: A World War I Flight Simulator
Rise of Glory immerses players in the aerial combat of World War I, offering a variety of planes and missions. The game includes both campaign and single-mission modes, allowing players to either follow a structured storyline or engage in standalone dogfights. The graphics are impressive for a mobile game, capturing the essence of early 20th-century aviation with detailed aircraft models and realistic flight dynamics.
However, early reviews suggest that while the game is fairly good, it is somewhat limited by the current capabilities of Windows Phone 7. Specifically, the platform lacks the ability to create real-time multiplayer gaming, which means that the dogfighting in Rise of Glory is restricted to single-player experiences. This limitation could be a significant drawback for players looking for a more interactive and competitive experience.
Despite this, Rise of Glory offers a rich single-player experience with various missions that challenge players to master different aspects of aerial combat, from dogfighting to bombing runs. The game also includes a variety of aircraft, each with its own unique handling characteristics, adding an extra layer of depth and replayability.
Revolution: A Puzzle-Solving Adventure
Revolution, on the other hand, offers a completely different gaming experience. This puzzle-solving game challenges players to solve intricate mechanical puzzles by placing cogs in the correct locations to make the “machines” work. The game is designed to test players’ problem-solving skills and creativity, offering a variety of increasingly complex puzzles.
The game’s mechanics are straightforward but engaging. Players must figure out how to place the cogs in such a way that the machine operates correctly, which often requires a good deal of trial and error. The satisfaction of seeing the machine come to life after solving a particularly challenging puzzle is one of the game’s most rewarding aspects.
Revolution also features a clean, minimalist design that keeps the focus squarely on the puzzles. The graphics are simple but effective, and the user interface is intuitive, making it easy for players to dive right in. The game includes a variety of levels, each with its own unique challenges, ensuring that players will have plenty to keep them occupied.
Both games are priced at $2.99 and are available for download from the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. While they offer different types of gameplay, both Rise of Glory and Revolution provide engaging experiences that showcase the potential of mobile gaming on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Whether you’re a fan of historical flight simulators or intricate puzzle games, these new releases are worth checking out.
