Microsoft has yet to reveal any firm numbers on the total number of Windows Phone 7 smartphones that have been sold since the platform launched at the end of last year.
Now Microsoft has announced that they have sold a total of 2 million Windows Phone 7 licenses to handset manufacturers, so this really doesn’t give us anything to compare against Apple’s iOS sales and Google’s Android sales.
Both Apple and Google provide details of how many devices have actually been activated, whilst Microsoft has just given us details of how many licenses have been sold, which means that there is no real way to compare the two as manufacturers have probably purchased licenses from Microsoft in bulk and it doesn’t give us a clear idea of how many devices have actually been activated.
Microsoft have a lot of work to do with Windows Phone 7, in terms of update and adding new features, one thing which is working in their favour at the moment is they way they are embracing the homebrew community and looking at ways to bring homebrew applications and features to Windows Phone 7 devices.
