Microsoft has updated its Outlook mobile app on Apple’s iOS platform and Google’s Android platform, and the latest versions of the apps come with some changes to the Calendar and People sections.
As well as some design changes to the calendar, there are also a number of bug fixes which are designed to improve the performance of the app on both platforms.
Enhanced Calendar Features
The Calendar section now provides a Three-day view when in landscape. This complements the existing Agenda and Day views to show more of your calendar at once. This is especially useful on larger devices like the iPhone 6 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The three-day view allows users to have a broader perspective of their upcoming events and commitments, making it easier to plan and manage their time effectively.
We’ve also delivered other improvements in the Calendar, including support for zero-length meetings, a ‘remove from calendar’ action for cancelled meetings, and an improved calendar day picker when creating and editing meetings. Zero-length meetings are particularly useful for marking quick check-ins or reminders without blocking significant portions of your schedule. The ‘remove from calendar’ action ensures that your calendar remains uncluttered by automatically removing cancelled meetings, which can otherwise create confusion.
Additionally, the improved calendar day picker simplifies the process of scheduling and editing meetings. This enhancement is designed to make the user experience more intuitive and efficient, reducing the time spent on administrative tasks and allowing users to focus on their core activities.
People Section Enhancements
The People section has also seen some notable improvements. Microsoft has focused on making it easier to manage and interact with your contacts. The updated app now offers better integration with your device’s contact list, ensuring that all your important contacts are easily accessible. This integration allows for seamless communication, whether you’re sending an email, making a call, or scheduling a meeting.
Moreover, the app now includes enhanced search functionality, making it easier to find specific contacts quickly. This is particularly beneficial for users with extensive contact lists, as it reduces the time spent searching for the right person. The improved search feature also includes predictive text, which suggests contacts as you type, further streamlining the process.
Another significant update is the ability to view contact details directly within the app. This means you can see all relevant information about a contact, such as their email address, phone number, and recent interactions, without having to leave the app. This feature is designed to enhance productivity by providing all necessary information in one place.
Performance Improvements and Bug Fixes
In addition to the new features and design changes, Microsoft has also addressed several bugs that were affecting the app’s performance. These bug fixes are aimed at improving the overall stability and reliability of the app on both iOS and Android platforms. Users can expect a smoother experience with fewer crashes and glitches.
The performance improvements also include faster load times and more responsive interactions. This ensures that users can access their emails, calendar, and contacts quickly and efficiently, without unnecessary delays. The app’s enhanced performance is particularly noticeable on older devices, where previous versions may have experienced lag or slowdowns.
