A production-ready Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive supercar has been unveiled this week at the Paris Automotive Show 2012, and is described as the world’s most powerful series production electric car.
The newly unveiled SLS AMG Electric Drive supercar created by Mercedes-Benz might be the most powerful electric production car, but it also sports a massive $500,000 price tag to match.
Unmatched Power and Performance
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive supercar is equipped with four synchronous electric motors with one positioned on each wheel, providing the car with permanent four-wheel drive. This innovative setup allows for precise torque distribution and exceptional handling, making it a true marvel of engineering.
Delivering a massive 740 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, the SLS AMG Electric Drive significantly outperforms its petrol counterpart. This equates to a whopping 177 hp and 259 lb-ft more than the 6.2-liter V8 in the standard SLS AMG series. The electric motors are powered by a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which has been developed in collaboration with the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team, ensuring cutting-edge technology and performance.
Mercedes-Benz claims that the SLS AMG Electric Drive sports car will reach 62 mph from standstill in just 3.9 seconds, which, when compared to the petrol SLS AMG, is only one-tenth of a second slower.
