If you are searching for a lightweight, recyclable laptop desk to use whilst on your bed or sofa, a new design called the Lapdeck might be worth more investigation and is priced at just $10.
Constructed from corrugated cardboard the flatpack design is easily assembled when required and then can also be just as easily collapsed, to be tucked away when not required.
The Lapdeck portable desk weighs just 340 g and requires no glue to be assembled and collapses down to a footprint of just 46 x 31 x 2cm in size. Its creators explain a little more :
“During our testing, Lapdeck had no problem supporting a 37-inch flat screen TV and a 25-pound laser printer, among many heavy items we subjected it to. Lapdeck is designed for use on soft surfaces like upholstery and bedding.
As long as you’re on a soft surface, Lapdeck’s geometry actually becomes more rigid supporting heavier, wider objects. Since Lapdeck is made from corrugated fiberboard and uses no adhesives, it’s naturally less rigid than materials like wood and plastic, but is plenty sturdy for normal use with laptops up to 18 inches and 8 pounds.”
The Lapdeck project is currently over on the Kickstarter crowd funding website looking to raise enough pledges to make the jump into manufacture.
So if you think Lapdeck is something you could benefit from, visit the Kickstarter website now to make a pledge and help Lapdeck become a reality and also become one of the first to own one.
