LaCie has today unveiled a new limited edition external hard drive called the Blade Runner, which they have created with the help of renowned French product designer Philippe Starck.
The LaCie Blade Runner is equipped with 10GB of complimentary Wuala Secure Cloud Storage and comes with 4TB of onboard storage for files. It is fitted with a USB 3.0 port for fast transfer of files, ensuring that users can move large amounts of data quickly and efficiently.
Design and Functionality
Philippe Starck, known for his innovative and futuristic designs, has brought his unique touch to the Blade Runner. He explains, “In my design nothing is useless – style, symbolism or functionality. In the Blade Runner, the warm interior electronics are encased in a mystifying shell, and the blades are the radiator that cools it down. The suspension gives space for air to circulate around the hard drive, and the metal material increases the temperature conduction.” This design not only provides a visually striking appearance but also enhances the functionality of the hard drive by improving its cooling efficiency.
The Blade Runner’s design is a blend of art and technology. The outer shell, with its blade-like structure, serves as a heat sink, dissipating heat generated by the internal components. This ensures that the hard drive remains cool even during heavy use, thereby extending its lifespan and maintaining optimal performance. The suspension system further aids in cooling by allowing air to circulate freely around the device.
Limited Edition and Availability
Only 9,999 LaCie Blade Runner external hard drives will be created, making it a highly sought-after item for tech enthusiasts and collectors alike. Each unit is custom-built to ensure “superb form and function,” says LaCie. This limited production run adds an element of exclusivity, making the Blade Runner not just a functional device but also a collector’s item.
The Blade Runner is now available for purchase for $300 from the LaCie Online Store and specialty retailers. Given its limited availability, those interested in owning this unique piece of technology are encouraged to act quickly.
In addition to its striking design and robust functionality, the Blade Runner also offers practical benefits. The 4TB of onboard storage provides ample space for storing large files, such as high-resolution photos, videos, and extensive music libraries. The USB 3.0 port ensures that data transfer is swift, reducing the time needed to back up or retrieve files.
Furthermore, the inclusion of 10GB of complimentary Wuala Secure Cloud Storage adds an extra layer of convenience and security. Users can store important files in the cloud, ensuring they are accessible from anywhere and protected against data loss.
The collaboration between LaCie and Philippe Starck has resulted in a product that is not only functional but also a work of art. The Blade Runner stands out in a market crowded with generic external hard drives, offering a unique combination of design, performance, and exclusivity.
