Japan Display Inc has announced the launch of a new flexible smartphone display, the Full Active Flex display.
This new flexible display could be headed to smartphones soon, it comes with a display size of 5.5 inches and has a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Innovative Design and Durability
The Full Active Flex display is designed to revolutionize the way we think about smartphone screens. With its flexible nature, it is easily possible to form curved shapes by utilizing its flexibility, and thus it will greatly help to expand the degrees of freedom in smartphone design. This flexibility opens up a myriad of possibilities for smartphone manufacturers, allowing them to create devices with unique form factors that were previously impossible with traditional rigid displays.
One of the standout features of this display is its use of plastic substrates instead of glass. This change in material not only contributes to the display’s flexibility but also significantly enhances its durability. By using plastic, it is possible to prevent cracking from occurring when the display is dropped. This makes the Full Active Flex display an excellent choice for consumers who are concerned about the fragility of their devices.
Power Efficiency and Advanced Technology
Furthermore, by incorporating low-frequency driving technology, which JDI has developed in the past, this Full Active Flex supports not only a normal 60Hz driving scheme but also supports a driving scheme as low as 15Hz. This contributes to a significant decrease of power consumption for mobile devices. Lower power consumption is a critical factor for modern smartphones, as it directly impacts battery life. With the ability to operate at lower frequencies, the Full Active Flex display can help extend the battery life of smartphones, making them more efficient and user-friendly.
In addition to its power-saving capabilities, the Full Active Flex display also boasts impressive visual performance. The Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels ensures that images and videos are displayed with stunning clarity and detail. This high resolution is particularly important for users who consume a lot of multimedia content on their devices, as it enhances the overall viewing experience.
The potential applications of the Full Active Flex display extend beyond just smartphones. Its flexibility and durability make it suitable for a wide range of other devices, including tablets, wearable technology, and even foldable laptops. As technology continues to evolve, the demand for versatile and resilient displays is likely to increase, and the Full Active Flex display is well-positioned to meet this demand.
