Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced on Twitter that his underground hyperloop may get the go-ahead.
The technology CEO revealed that he has received ‘verbal government approval’ for his plans to build an underground hyperloop which connects New York, Washington DC, Baltimore, and around a dozen more cities.
Just received verbal govt approval for The Boring Company to build an underground NY-Phil-Balt-DC Hyperloop. NY-DC in 29 mins.

Understanding the Hyperloop Concept
The hyperloop is a proposed high-speed transportation system that uses a network of near-vacuum tubes through which pressurized pods travel at high speeds. The concept, first introduced by Musk in 2013, aims to revolutionize public transportation by significantly reducing travel times between major cities. For instance, the proposed travel time from New York to Washington DC is just 29 minutes, a journey that currently takes several hours by car or train.
The hyperloop system promises to be faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly compared to traditional modes of transport. The near-vacuum environment within the tubes minimizes air resistance, allowing the pods to travel at speeds exceeding 700 miles per hour. Additionally, the system is designed to be powered by renewable energy sources, making it a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel-based transportation.
Challenges and Future Prospects
As yet, there are no details on exactly what this verbal approval means for the project and when the project may start. However, the announcement has generated significant interest and speculation about the future of transportation in the United States.
One of the major challenges facing the hyperloop project is the regulatory approval process. Building an underground transportation system that spans multiple states involves navigating a complex web of federal, state, and local regulations. Additionally, securing the necessary funding for such an ambitious project is another significant hurdle. While Musk’s companies have a track record of overcoming financial challenges, the scale of the hyperloop project will require substantial investment from both public and private sectors.
He also revealed that it would take just 29 minutes to travel from New York to Washington DC using the hyperloop. The video below gives us an idea of what Elon Musk has planned.
The potential benefits of the hyperloop extend beyond just reduced travel times. The system could alleviate congestion on highways and reduce the strain on existing public transportation networks. Moreover, the hyperloop could spur economic growth by making it easier for people to commute between cities, thereby expanding the labor market and increasing access to job opportunities.
As soon as we get some more information on exactly what Elon Musk has planned for his Boring Company and his underground hyperloop, we will let you guys know.
