We have been hearing rumors that Google will debut their first Android tablet at this week’s Google I/O developer conference. The device is apparently being made by Asus for Google, and it will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Now, it would appear that we may actually have a photo of the device.
The guys from Gizmodo Australia managed to get their hands on a training document, which came with the following photo, and the document also had more details on the device.
The Asus Nexus 7 tablet will apparently feature a 7-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.3GHz. There will also be a GeForce 12-core GPU and 1GB of RAM.
Storage Options and Pricing
It looks like there will be two versions available, one with 8GB of built-in storage that will retail for $199 and one with 16GB of built-in storage that will retail for $249. This pricing strategy seems to be aimed at making the Nexus 7 a competitive option in the budget tablet market, directly challenging Amazon’s Kindle Fire and other low-cost tablets. The inclusion of a 16GB model also provides a bit more flexibility for users who need extra storage for apps, media, and other content.
Additional Features and Specifications
The Google Asus Nexus 7 tablet is also rumored to come with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and will use Google Wallet. This feature will allow users to make payments and transfer data wirelessly with just a tap, adding a layer of convenience and modern functionality to the device. Additionally, the tablet will come with a front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera, which should be sufficient for video calls and basic photography needs.
The Nexus 7 is expected to have a robust build quality, typical of Asus devices, and will likely feature a sleek design that aligns with Google’s aesthetic preferences. The tablet is also anticipated to have a decent battery life, thanks to the efficient Tegra 3 processor and optimized software in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Software and Ecosystem
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is expected to bring several improvements over its predecessor, Ice Cream Sandwich. These enhancements include a smoother user interface, better performance, and new features like Google Now, which provides personalized information and updates based on the user’s habits and preferences. The Nexus 7 will also have access to the Google Play Store, offering a vast array of apps, games, books, and media content.
The integration of Google services such as Gmail, Google Maps, and YouTube will make the Nexus 7 a compelling choice for users who are already invested in the Google ecosystem. The tablet’s NFC capabilities and Google Wallet integration further enhance its appeal by offering modern, convenient payment options.
We should have full details later this week, as the Google I/O developer conference unfolds. The anticipation surrounding the Nexus 7 is palpable, and it will be interesting to see how it performs in the competitive tablet market.
