Japanese company Scalar Corp has developed a 50x microscope that is capable of using either the iPhone or the iPad as an external viewer via WiFi.
The AirMicro model A1 microscope is designed for the cosmetic industry and can zoom in and out to check textures and blemishes on the skin. But if you’re looking for a little extra magnification replacement lens units are available up to 200x expanding the applications the microscope can be used for.
Scalar has already created the iPhone, iPad application which is now downloadable from the iTunes app store. They also intend to provide the application programming interface (API) of the viewer and make an OEM agreement for the wireless LAN communication unit to help developers create their own inventions.
The AirMicro model A1 will be shipping to North America later this month in reaching the Japanese shores by the end of June and will be available for around $390.
