A number of iOS developers have been threatened with legal cation for using Apple’s in app purchasing system within their applications, and the company behind the lawsuit is claiming that Apple’s in app purchases infringes on their patent.
There are no details as yet which company is taking the legal action against developers, and no details why the company is going after individual developers rather than Apple, maybe the company thinks it would be easier for them to file various lawsuits against developers than it would against Apple.
One developer James Thomson who develops a scientific calculator application for iOS devices announced on Twitter that “I’ve been told that I am infringing their patent, they want me to license it, and I have 21 days”.
Other developers are also reporting a similar thing, and it seems that the information has now been passed on to Apple’s legal team who are looking into the matter.
