We have been hearing rumors for some time that Apple is working on a new iPad with a higher resolution display, possible a similar Retina display to the one found in the iPhone 4.
Now more references to a higher resolution display have been found in the iOS 4 SDK, with references to an iPad screen resolution of 1536 x 2048, something that have been found previously in earlier versions of Apple’s iOS SDK.
There have been a number of rumors that Apple would launch the iPad 3 some time near the end of 2011, and that it would feature this new higher resolution display.
Samsung recently unveiled a new prototype tablet display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels which is designed for tablets, considering that Samsung supplies Apple they could also be producing the retina display for the iPad 3.
Apple launched the iPad 2 earlier this year, and it featured the same resolution display as the first generation iPad, it could be possible that Apple would launch the iPad 3 later this year, and we suspect that it would be called the iPad HD, and could be sold alongside the existing iPad 2 rather than replacing the iPad 2.
