A new Raspberry Pi compatible development board has been unveiled this week in the form of the new HummingBoard, which comes equipped with a Freescale i.MX6 ARM Cortex-A9 processor.
The new HummingBoard is equipped with up to 2GB of RAM and a 26-pin Raspberry Pi-like connector for add-ons and expandability.
Features and Specifications
The HummingBoard development board is also fitted with a microSD card slot for storage expansion together with connectors for mSATA and mini PCIe devices. This makes it highly versatile for various applications, from simple DIY projects to more complex embedded systems. The board supports multiple operating systems, including various Linux distributions and Android, providing flexibility for developers and hobbyists alike.
One of the standout features of the HummingBoard is its processing power. The Freescale i.MX6 ARM Cortex-A9 processor is known for its robust performance and energy efficiency. This makes the HummingBoard suitable for a wide range of applications, including media centers, home automation systems, and even lightweight server tasks. The board’s GPU capabilities also allow for smooth video playback and basic gaming.
Expandability and Connectivity
The 26-pin connector is designed to be compatible with many Raspberry Pi add-ons, making it easy for users to expand the board’s functionality. Whether you need additional sensors, displays, or other peripherals, the HummingBoard can accommodate your needs. Additionally, the inclusion of mSATA and mini PCIe slots opens up even more possibilities for expansion. For instance, you could add an SSD for faster storage or a Wi-Fi module for wireless connectivity.
The HummingBoard also includes standard connectivity options such as HDMI, Ethernet, and USB ports. This ensures that you can easily connect it to various devices and networks, making it a versatile tool for both development and everyday use. The HDMI port supports full HD video output, making it ideal for media applications. The Ethernet port ensures reliable network connectivity, which is crucial for server and IoT applications.
Unfortunately, no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet by its creators Solid Run, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.
Solid Run is also currently running a competition during which it is giving away 30 HummingBoard development boards to winners. Jump over to their website for more information and entry details, submissions must be sent by April 25th, 2014, midnight.
