Apple’s iOS 14 brings tons of new features to the iPhone, and if you don’t know where to start with all these new settings and features, we have a great video with some handy tips from Brandon Butch.
Customizing Default Apps
One of the standout features of iOS 14 is the ability to change default apps. This means you can select a different web browser instead of Safari or choose a different email client over Apple’s Mail. This is a significant change from previous versions of iOS, where users were locked into using Apple’s default apps. To change your default apps, go to Settings, scroll down to the app you want to set as default, and select it. This feature provides more flexibility and personalization, allowing users to tailor their iPhone experience to their preferences.
New Customizable Settings
As we can see from the video, there are lots of new customizable iOS 14 settings that can be changed and more. For instance, the new App Library feature automatically organizes your apps into categories, making it easier to find what you need. You can also hide entire pages of apps to declutter your home screen. Widgets have been redesigned and can now be placed on the home screen, offering more information at a glance. These widgets come in various sizes and can be customized to show different types of information, such as weather, calendar events, or news headlines.
Another exciting feature is the Picture-in-Picture mode, which allows you to watch videos or take FaceTime calls while using other apps. This multitasking feature is particularly useful for those who like to stay productive while consuming media. To activate Picture-in-Picture, simply start a video or FaceTime call and then swipe up to go to the home screen. The video will continue playing in a small window that you can move around the screen.
iOS 14 also introduces a new Translate app, which supports 11 languages and can translate text and voice in real-time. This is a handy tool for travelers or anyone who needs to communicate in a different language. The app works offline, so you don’t need an internet connection to use it.
Privacy has been a major focus in iOS 14. The new software includes features like App Privacy Reports, which show you how often apps access your location, photos, camera, microphone, and contacts. You can also grant apps access to your approximate location instead of your exact location, adding an extra layer of privacy.
iOS 14 comes with lots more new features and updates for the iPhone and iPad. The software is available to download as an over-the-air update. You can install it by going to Settings > General > Software Update on your device. Make sure your device is backed up before installing the update to avoid any potential data loss.
In addition to these features, iOS 14 has improved performance and battery life, making your device run smoother and last longer. The update also includes enhancements to Siri, which now has a more compact interface and can send audio messages. Maps have been updated with cycling directions and guides, making it easier to navigate and explore new places.
Overall, iOS 14 is a substantial update that brings a host of new features and improvements to the iPhone and iPad. Whether you’re looking to customize your device, enhance your productivity, or improve your privacy, there’s something in iOS 14 for everyone.
