If I told you Google tracked uploaded music you probably wouldn’t be surprised. The search engine giant has its hands in virtually everything nowadays, especially things that are virtual. However, it’s what Google’s done with this information that’s truly impressive. Google has created a musical timeline that shows the popularity over time of musical genres and even sub genres inside those genres.
It’s a fully interactive graph that can be found here, and it takes the deliberation of this data a step further by offering music choices that correspond with the genre you’re looking at whether it’s Pop or Indie/Underground Rap. It’s an interesting little too to get lost in and a great way to discover new genres of music you may have never heard of before or new artists in genres you like.
The graph goes as far back as the 1950s when apparently Jazz and Easy Listening were in popular demand. It’s pretty crazy to see a visual representation of how people have developed more and more eclectic tastes in music over the years and how certain genres impacted music when they were introduced.
Check out the graph and have a bit of fun with it. Who knows what you might discover.
