Glass is an interesting piece of technology, but pretty pricy, especially when you consider the need to have a tethering plan with your smartphone just to be able to connect it to the internet while on the go. The latest update changes all that. Google Glass users can save a few dollars and go back to a non-tethering plan without sacrificing their Glass’ mobile connectivity.
Glass now works by simply sending information to your phone via the Glass Android app, bypassing the tether restriction of old. You’re good to go as long as you see the two arrows designating the app is functioning.
It’s a great update that definitely needed to happen, but I don’t think current Glass users are really that strapped for cash. If you can afford Glass, you can probably afford a tethered phone plan too. Most of us can’t afford to drop hundreds to test a device, no matter how awesome that device may be.
I really don’t see the point of Glass beyond it being a ridiculously expensive action camera. My smartphone can do everything it can do and more. Integrate Glass’ functionality with regular prescription glasses and then I’ll be impressed.
