According to Reuters, both Google and Apple are interested in getting their hands on 4,000 Nortel patents, which are reported to be worth $1 billion.
The sale of the 4,000 Nortel patents is part of the auction of the companies assets after it went bankrupt, and it seems both Google and Apple, as well as a range of other smartphone manufacturers are looking to acquire the patents.
Nortel owns a total of 7 of the 150 patents that are needed for the implementation of LTE, with Nokia owning 57 and Ericsson owning 14, so either Google or Apple acquiring these patents could benefit the companies.
