Mozilla has launched its new Firefox Send encrypted file transfer service, it is free and designed to keep your information private.
The video below gives us a look at how the new Firefox Send service works and also some of its features.
At Mozilla, we are always committed to people’s security and privacy. It’s part of our long-standing Mozilla Manifesto. We are continually looking for new ways to fulfill that promise, whether it’s through the browser, apps or services. So, it felt natural to graduate one of our popular Test Pilot experiments, Firefox Send, send.firefox.com. Send is a free encrypted file transfer service that allows users to safely and simply share files from any browser. Additionally, Send will also be available as an Android app in beta later this week. Now that it’s a keeper, we’ve made it even better, offering higher upload limits and greater control over the files you share.
Features and Benefits of Firefox Send
Firefox Send offers a range of features designed to enhance user experience and ensure the security of your files. One of the standout features is its end-to-end encryption, which ensures that your files are secure from the moment they leave your device until they reach the recipient. This means that even Mozilla cannot access your files, providing an extra layer of privacy.
Another significant feature is the ability to set expiration dates for your files. You can choose to have your files expire after a certain number of downloads or after a specific period, such as 24 hours. This ensures that your files are not accessible indefinitely, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
Firefox Send also allows users to set passwords for their files. This adds an additional layer of security, ensuring that only the intended recipient can access the files. The service supports file uploads up to 1GB for non-registered users and up to 2.5GB for users with a free Firefox account. This makes it a versatile tool for sharing everything from small documents to larger media files.
How to Use Firefox Send
Using Firefox Send is straightforward and user-friendly. To get started, visit the Firefox Send website at send.firefox.com. You can drag and drop your files into the upload area or click to select files from your device. Once your files are uploaded, you can customize the settings, such as setting an expiration date or adding a password.
After configuring your settings, click the “Upload” button. Firefox Send will generate a unique link that you can share with your recipient. The recipient can then click the link to download the files securely. If you have set a password, the recipient will need to enter it to access the files.
For those who prefer mobile access, Mozilla has announced that Firefox Send will be available as an Android app in beta later this week. This will allow users to share files securely from their mobile devices, providing even greater flexibility and convenience.
You can now try out the new Firefox Send service for yourself, you can find out more information about it over at Mozilla.
