Facebook previously attempted to acquire Snapchat, the deal was rumored to be in the region of $3 billion, although Snapchat decided to turn down Facebook’s offer.
Now it would appear that Facebook is looking to take on Snapchat with a new messaging application that will allow users to send short messages to each other.
This new Facebook messaging application will be a stand alone app, and will not be part of the Facebook Messenger app, as yet there are not details on the full set of features this new app will include.
This is not the first time that Facebook has produce an application similar to Snapchat, in 2012 the company released Facebook Poke, which has self destructing messages, although the app never took off and ended up being cancelled earlier this month.
It will be interesting to see if Facebook are capable of producing their own app that will end up being as popular as Snapchat, it will be interesting to see if this new app becomes popular with Facebook fans.
