During a demonstration for Citrix Systems, Michael Dell pulled the device from his pocket and gave the audience at the Moscone Center West a minute-long sneak preview of Dell’s new Streak mobile Internet device.
It’s the first public demo of the new Streak MID, and Michael Dell said that the new phone will be available next month, initially with Dell’s partner O2 Telefonica in Europe. Then, later this year, it will be available in the US via AT&T.
Features and Specifications
The Dell Streak is a 5-inch long device equipped with 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth capabilities. It features an 800 x 460 multitouch screen, which provides a vibrant and responsive display for users. The device also boasts a dual-LED flash 5-megapixel camera, making it suitable for capturing high-quality photos and videos. The Dell Streak runs on the Android OS platform, which offers a wide range of applications and customization options. It is powered by a 1,300mAh battery, which provides a decent amount of usage time before needing a recharge.
In addition to these features, the Dell Streak includes a front-facing VGA camera for video calls, a microSD slot for expandable storage, and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, ensuring smooth performance for various tasks. The device also supports GPS navigation, making it a versatile tool for both personal and professional use.
Market Position and Competition
The Dell Streak enters a competitive market, going head-to-head with other popular mobile devices such as the Apple iPhone and various Android smartphones. Its unique 5-inch screen size positions it between traditional smartphones and larger tablets, offering a balance of portability and functionality. This makes it an attractive option for users who want a larger display without sacrificing the convenience of a pocket-sized device.
One of the key selling points of the Dell Streak is its integration with the Android OS, which provides access to a vast ecosystem of apps through the Google Play Store. This allows users to customize their device with a wide range of applications, from productivity tools to entertainment options. Additionally, the device’s compatibility with 3G networks ensures that users can stay connected on the go, whether they are browsing the web, streaming media, or using social media platforms.
The Dell Streak’s launch with O2 Telefonica in Europe and later with AT&T in the US highlights Dell’s strategy to partner with established carriers to reach a broad audience. This approach ensures that the device will be available to a wide range of consumers, from tech enthusiasts to everyday users looking for a reliable and versatile mobile device.
