A new device has hit Kickstarter called the Smart Citizen, which has been created to provide an open-source crowdsourced environmental monitoring platform.
The information collected by the Smart Citizen devices is then sent to be included in an interactive, worldwide environmental database, which hopes to be the largest to date!
The Smart Citizen is made up of an Arduino compatible hardware, data visualisation web API, and mobile app. Watch the video below to learn more about the Smart Citizen project and see it in action.
“We are not asking you to eliminate your carbon footprint, nor attempting to turn you into a climate change crusader, nor claiming that the end of the world was triggered by you not recycling that can of soda last week…
Experts of all kinds and points of view are working hard to tackle these problems, and talking heads add their two cents daily. Our goal is not to add to this chatter, but to help in the best way we know: Empowering communities to collect data of what’s actually happening in their environment.”
The Smart Citizen project is currently over on the Kickstarter website looking to raise enough pledges to make the jump from concept to production. So if you think Smart Citizen is something you could benefit from, visit the Kickstarter website now to make a pledge and help Smart Citizen become a reality.
