August this week announced the availability of their new Smart Lock which provides a virtual key to any door it is fit to and is now available to finally purchase from retail stores both on the high street and online for $250.
The August Smart Lock can be controlled using your smartphone and provides a safe, simple, and social way to manage your home’s lock, say its creators. Watch the video after the jump to see the next generation lock in action.
The Smart Lock uses encrypted locking technology which is safer than keys that can easily be lost or misplaced. Using the companion smartphone application users are able to control the people who are allowed to access their door and at what times.
“Now you can control who when people can enter and who can’t—without the need for keys or codes. And you can do it all from your smartphone or computer. The August Smart Lock is a new lock and access system that allows you to send a virtual key to anyone you choose to have access to your home”
