Asus announced a while back that they were working on their own tablet computer, the Asus Eee Tablet. Now, it looks like Asus’s first tablet may hit the stores as early as July 2010.
Asus’s Chairman Jerry Shen announced that he will be showing off the Asus Eee Pad at Computex in June, and Asus has also confirmed that the tablet will go on sale in July 2010.
Expected Specifications and Features
We don’t have any information on what sort of specifications the Asus Eee Pad will come with as yet, although we suspect Asus will try and price it as competitively as possible, and it will probably cost less than Apple’s iPad. Given Asus’s history of producing affordable yet high-quality electronics, it is likely that the Eee Pad will feature a robust set of specifications designed to appeal to a wide range of users.
The Asus Eee Tablet will most likely run Windows 7, as Asus have confirmed they are launching a Windows 7 version. This choice of operating system suggests that the Eee Pad will be aimed at users who need a versatile device capable of running a wide range of software applications, from productivity tools to multimedia programs. Windows 7 is known for its user-friendly interface and extensive compatibility with various software, making it a strong contender in the tablet market.
Alternative Operating Systems and Future Plans
Although they have said that they will also launch a tablet that will run Google’s Chrome OS, we suspect that version won’t be the one launching in July. Chrome OS is a lightweight, web-based operating system that is designed to be fast and secure. It is particularly well-suited for users who primarily use their devices for browsing the internet, using web applications, and consuming online media. The introduction of a Chrome OS version of the Eee Pad could provide an interesting alternative for users who prefer a more streamlined, cloud-based experience.
In addition to the operating system, other potential features of the Asus Eee Pad could include a high-resolution touchscreen display, a powerful processor, and ample storage options. Connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and possibly even 3G or 4G capabilities could also be expected, making the Eee Pad a versatile device for both home and on-the-go use.
Asus has a reputation for innovation, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Eee Pad includes some unique features that set it apart from other tablets on the market. For example, Asus could incorporate their expertise in netbooks to create a device that offers a full keyboard attachment, providing users with the flexibility to use the Eee Pad as both a tablet and a laptop.
Overall, the launch of the Asus Eee Pad is highly anticipated, and it will be interesting to see how it compares to other tablets available at the time, particularly the Apple iPad. With competitive pricing and a strong set of features, the Eee Pad has the potential to be a significant player in the tablet market.
