We recently saw a comparison video of the new Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X and now we have another one of the iPhone X vs Samsung Galaxy S9, this one is from the guys over at MacRumors.
The latest video gives us a look at the new Samsung Galaxy S9 side by side with Apple’s iPhone X, we get to see a range of features on the two handsets.
Display and Design
The Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8-inch display with a QHD+ resolution and an 18:5:9 aspect ratio. This Super AMOLED display is known for its vibrant colors and deep blacks, making it one of the best screens on the market. On the other hand, the iPhone X features a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels. Both displays support HDR content, but the Galaxy S9’s screen is slightly more curved, giving it a more immersive feel.
In terms of design, the Galaxy S9 retains the sleek, glass-and-metal design of its predecessor, the Galaxy S8. It also includes a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which has been repositioned for easier access. The iPhone X, however, takes a different approach with its edge-to-edge display and the controversial notch at the top, which houses the TrueDepth camera system for Face ID.
Performance and Camera
Processing power for the Samsung Galaxy S9 is provided by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor in the U.S. and China, or a Samsung Exynos 9810 processor in other regions. It is equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card. The iPhone X, on the other hand, is powered by Apple’s A11 Bionic chip, which includes a neural engine for advanced machine learning tasks. It comes with 3GB of RAM and is available in 64GB and 256GB storage options, though it lacks expandable storage.
When it comes to cameras, the Galaxy S9 features a single 12-megapixel rear camera with a variable aperture that can switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4. This allows for better low-light performance and more control over depth of field. The S9 Plus, however, includes dual 12-megapixel cameras, adding a telephoto lens for optical zoom and portrait mode. The iPhone X also sports a dual-camera setup with two 12-megapixel sensors, one wide-angle and one telephoto, both with optical image stabilization. The front-facing camera on the iPhone X is a 7-megapixel TrueDepth camera, which enables Face ID and Animoji.
Software and Additional Features
The Samsung Galaxy S9 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s custom Experience UI on top. It includes features like Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant, and Samsung DeX, which allows the phone to be used as a desktop computer when connected to a monitor. The iPhone X runs on iOS 11, which offers a smooth and intuitive user experience with features like Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, and Animoji, which uses the TrueDepth camera to create animated emojis that mimic your facial expressions.
Both phones offer water and dust resistance, with the Galaxy S9 rated at IP68 and the iPhone X at IP67. They also support wireless charging, though the Galaxy S9 supports faster wireless charging speeds. Battery life is comparable, with both phones capable of lasting a full day of moderate use.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are launching this Friday, the 16th of March. These handsets are expected to be the iPhone’s biggest competitors and are anticipated to be Samsung’s most popular handsets to date. With their impressive displays, powerful performance, and advanced camera systems, both the Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X offer compelling options for consumers looking for a high-end smartphone.
