With the release of the latest version of Apple’s mobile OS, iOS 4.2 Apple has also added a new feature which is currently part of their Mobile Me subscription service, the Find My iPhone app.
The Find My iPhone app is now free as part of iOS 4.2, and you are able to track your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using the feature, although it will only work on the iPhone 4, iPod Touch fourth generation and the iPad.
The Find My iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) feature is now free to use without a MobileMe? subscription and helps you locate your missing device.* The Find My iPhone app is a free download on the App Store? and lets users easily locate a missing device on a map and have it display a message or play a sound. Users can even remotely lock or wipe data from a lost device to protect privacy.
We are still waiting for iOS 4.2 to be released, it should be available anytime soon.
