Apple is donating part of its sales from its retail stores today to mark World AIDS Day, and the company is also donating part of sales of some of their apps.
The company has changed their Apple logo’s in their retail stores around the world to mark World AIDS Day, and their logo has now been changed to red at their retail stores, as you can see in the photo above.
Apple’s Commitment to World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day, observed on December 1st each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. Apple has shown its commitment to this cause by not only changing the color of its iconic logo but also by making significant financial contributions. The red logo is a powerful symbol of solidarity and support for the millions of people affected by HIV/AIDS worldwide.
Apple’s initiative is part of a broader campaign to support (RED), an organization founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver in 2006. (RED) partners with the world’s most iconic brands to create (RED)-branded products, with a portion of the profits going to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Apple’s involvement with (RED) has been ongoing for several years, and the company has contributed millions of dollars to the cause.
Exclusive RED Themed Apps
The company also recently announced that they had teamed up with a range of app developers to offer exclusive RED themed apps on their iOS app store. These apps are specially designed with unique features and content to encourage users to participate in the fight against AIDS. Some popular apps that have joined this initiative include Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, and Candy Crush, each offering exclusive in-app purchases where proceeds go directly to the (RED) charity.
For example, in Angry Birds, players can purchase a special (RED) power-up, while in Clash of Clans, a unique (RED) gem bundle is available. These small in-app purchases can collectively make a significant impact, demonstrating how technology and gaming can be harnessed for social good.
The proceeds from these RED applications go to the RED charity to help fight AIDS around the world. This is the first year that Apple has changed their logo in support of World AIDS Day, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing partnership with (RED). By integrating charitable giving into their business model, Apple not only raises funds but also increases awareness among its vast customer base.
In addition to app sales, Apple has also released special (RED) products over the years, such as the (RED) iPhone, (RED) Apple Watch bands, and (RED) accessories. Each purchase of these products contributes to the Global Fund, supporting programs that provide testing, counseling, treatment, and prevention services in regions most in need.
Apple’s efforts extend beyond just financial contributions. The company also uses its platform to educate and inform the public about HIV/AIDS. Through its website, social media channels, and in-store displays, Apple shares stories of those affected by the disease and highlights the progress made in the fight against it. This comprehensive approach ensures that their support is not just monetary but also helps to break the stigma and misinformation surrounding HIV/AIDS.
