The Apple Spaceship Campus, officially known as Apple Park, is due to be finished next year, and there is now a new video that shows how Apple’s massive building project is progressing.
The new Apple HQ will launch in 2017 and it will be the home to more than 12,000 Apple employees. The main building measures a massive 2.8 million square feet. The video below shows how the building project is progressing.
Design and Architecture
The design of the Apple Spaceship Campus is nothing short of revolutionary. The main building, often referred to as “the spaceship” due to its circular, futuristic design, was envisioned by the late Steve Jobs and brought to life by renowned architect Norman Foster. The structure is designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable. It features the world’s largest panels of curved glass and is powered entirely by renewable energy, thanks to an extensive array of solar panels on the roof.
The campus is not just about the main building. There are several other structures around the campus, including a visitor center, a cafe, and an Apple Store. The visitor center will offer a unique experience for Apple fans and the general public, featuring an augmented reality experience that allows visitors to explore the campus virtually. The cafe will provide a space for employees and visitors to relax and enjoy a meal, while the Apple Store will showcase the latest products and innovations from the tech giant.
Environmental Sustainability
Apple Park is designed with sustainability at its core. The campus is set in a lush, green environment with over 9,000 trees, including fruit trees and native species. The landscape is designed to be drought-resistant, reducing the need for irrigation and conserving water. The buildings themselves are designed to maximize energy efficiency, with natural ventilation systems that reduce the need for air conditioning and heating.
One of the most impressive features of Apple Park is its use of renewable energy. The campus is powered by 100% renewable energy, including a 17-megawatt rooftop solar installation and 4 megawatts of biogas fuel cells. This commitment to sustainability extends to the materials used in construction, with many of the building materials being recycled or sourced from sustainable suppliers.
The campus also includes a state-of-the-art fitness center for employees, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. There are also extensive walking and cycling paths, encouraging employees to stay active and reduce their carbon footprint by using alternative modes of transportation.
The video below provides a glimpse into the progress of this monumental project, showcasing the scale and ambition of Apple’s new headquarters.
As well as the main building, there will also be some other buildings around the campus. This will include a visitor center and a cafe, plus an Apple Store. The visitor center will feature an observation deck, a cafe, and a store, providing a space for the public to learn more about Apple’s history and innovations. The cafe will offer a variety of food and beverage options, while the Apple Store will showcase the latest products and provide a space for customers to experience Apple’s technology firsthand.
The Apple Spaceship Campus is set to be a landmark in both design and sustainability. With its innovative architecture, commitment to renewable energy, and focus on employee well-being, it represents the future of corporate campuses. The project is a testament to Apple’s vision and dedication to creating a better, more sustainable world.
