When Apple Maps launched on the iPhone back in 2012 the service need a considerable amount of work and people continued to use Google Maps on Apple’ iPhone.
Three years later, things are a little different, Apple Maps is now used three times more than Google Maps on the iPhone.
When Apple’s mapping service launched it came under a lot of criticism because of issues with the service, Apple has managed to fix these problems in the last few years and it has not become popular.
Apple recently told the Associated Press that their mapping software now serves 5 billion requests each week and that it is used three time more than Google Maps.
Apple says its mapping service is now used more than three times as often as its next leading competitor on iPhones and iPads, with more than 5 billion map-related requests each week. Research firm comScore says Apple has a modest lead over Google on iPhones in the U.S., though comScore measures how many people use a service in a given month rather than how often.
Whilst Apple’s mapping software may be popular on the iPhone, Google’s software still dominates mapping apps overall, it has twice as many uses as Apple Maps, this is because of Google’s Android OS.
Apple have said that they will continue to improved their mapping software, it appears what they have done so far seems to have worked.
