Apple Mac OS X Lion Allows Time Machine To Work Without External Drives Creating Local Backups

9to5Mac has discovered a great new feature in the new Apple Lion OS X will allow you to use the updated Time Machine software in the new Apple Lion OS X to make ‘Local Snapshot’ backups without the need for any external drives to be connected, as on previous OS X releases.

The new ‘Local Snapshots’ feature can make backups of all file changes every hour and will then store these backups locally on your Mac’s internal hard drive.

However Apple does warn that an external drive should be used to protect your Mac from local file and disk malfunctions. But if you are out and about away from your Time Capsule of external storage drives the new ‘Local Snapshots’ feature can make sure you backup the files you have been working on locally. Saving you from any embarrassment when that fies is accidentally deleted or wiped.
