Apple has launched a new service in Japan, called iTunes Pass, the service will let you top up your iTunes Store credit at Apple retail stores in Japan, without the need for a physical gift card.
At the moment if you want to top up your iTunes store credit, this can either be done directly in iTunes with your credit card, or buy purchasing an iTunes Gift card and the redeeming it.
This new service is only available at Apple stores in Japan at the moment, and it allows you to add a new iTunes Pass to the Passbook app on your Apple device.
You then visit the Apple store, and pay however much your want to be added to your account, this is then added to your iTunes Pass, and automatically added to your iTunes account.
Apple has launched iTunes Pass in Japan without any sort of official announcement, we suspect they will also be launching it in out countries including the US and the UK.
We doubt that Apple will decide to use this to replace iTunes Gift cards, as they are popular when someone wants to buy someone a gift, but this new feature would be a good solution for people who have purchased iTunes Gift cards for their own devices.
