With the ‘Lazy Song’ inducing global LSS and the latest Planet of the Apes movie enthralling audiences, it comes as no surprise that monkeys are coming back in a big way. What we have here is a certified Party Animal Outfit (says so in the accompanying t-shirt) for those brave souls who like going to parties decked out in a costume. Not sure if it will invite derisive sneers or welcome applause, but wearing costumes is proven to reduce socially awkward situations.
As pictured above, the entire outfit includes a blue sweater with accompanying message, a cap, a chimp mask, shorts, and a utility belt for beverages. Not sure if the beer’s included. For all we know, those pitchers might be full of apple juice.
To be honest, initially we thought it was all a gag until we saw the product page. Lo and behold, it’s selling on Amazon for $40. Reviews so far are nonexistent. If anyone does plan on going to a party as a ‘smart’ ape, why, they should be accompanied by a few human slaves like in the original movie dressed in nothing but furry underwear.
The Popularity of Monkey-Themed Costumes
The resurgence of monkey-themed costumes can be attributed to several factors. Pop culture has always had a fascination with primates, from the iconic King Kong to the mischievous Curious George. The ‘Lazy Song’ by Bruno Mars, with its catchy tune and memorable music video featuring people in monkey masks, has certainly played a role in bringing this trend back into the limelight. Additionally, the success of the Planet of the Apes franchise has rekindled interest in all things simian. These movies not only entertain but also provoke thought about the relationship between humans and animals, making the idea of dressing up as a monkey both fun and intellectually stimulating.
Why Costumes Reduce Social Awkwardness
Wearing costumes can significantly reduce social awkwardness for several reasons. Firstly, costumes provide an instant conversation starter. When you walk into a party dressed as a ‘Party Animal,’ people are naturally curious and more likely to approach you. This breaks the ice and makes social interactions smoother. Secondly, costumes allow individuals to step out of their everyday personas and adopt a new identity, even if just for a few hours. This can be incredibly liberating and can help people feel more confident and outgoing. Lastly, costumes often come with a sense of humor, and laughter is a universal way to bond with others. Whether you’re dressed as a smart ape or any other character, the shared experience of costume-wearing can create a sense of camaraderie among party-goers.
In homage to an immortal cinematic masterpiece, we hereby utter these hallowed lines
“Get your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape!”
