In Amazon’s press event last night which unveiled their new range of Kindle devices in the form of the Kindle Fire HD. Amazon also announced a new service called Amazon Serials that allows users to purchase a title once and then receive all future instalments to the text, as the story unfolds.
Serialised ebooks are not new to the industry, but it now seems that the ebook giant it looking to take them main stream. Allowing readers choose how the story is going to go, in a similar vein to the chose-your-own path adventure books such as The Warlock of Firetop Mountain created by Steve Jackson.
Amazon is releasing eight products within Amazon Serials to begin, with each being priced at an introductory price of $1.99, and all are currently exclusive to Amazon. You only need to pat once and all new update are then automatically download to your Kindle app or device.
“Kindle Serials are stories published in episodes. When you buy a Kindle Serial, you will receive all existing episodes on your Kindle immediately, followed by future episodes as they are published. Enjoy reading as the author creates the story, and discuss episodes with other readers in the Kindle forums.”
As the stories begin Amazon will start inviting readers to discuss the serials on message boards as they’re published, so the authors of the books can tweak the story for the next instalments.
