Former Senior Designer at Apple, and the Co-founder and Chief Design Officer of Latch Thomas Meyerhoffer who is also a “master surfboard shaper”. Has unveiled a new modular surfboard he has created in the form of the 2PRT
2PRT modular surfboard is a two-piece design that allows you to reduce its length for easy transportation, enabling you to avoid extra airline baggage fees fit the surfboard into compact cars.
Thomas Meyerhoffer has also designed hour shaped surfboards which he launched nine years ago causing waves in the surfing community.”Thomas Meyerhoffer is obsessed with simplicity, whether it’s in his industrial designs or the surfboards he rides in California.”
The unique surfboard design also allows you to combine different nose and tail shapes which are made in a variety of different materials to suit the surfing conditions and your surfing style. Roberto Baldwin explains more about the design and and how it rides:
My first test was last week at Montara State Beach, half an hour south of San Francisco, and the biggest compliment I can pay the 2PRT is that I didn’t notice much of a difference from my everyday one-piece boards. It floated and rode like a typical, well-built surfboard instead of some weird Frankenstein creation. When pressing down on the tail, I couldn’t see or feel any separation between the two sections—and I’m a big guy at six-foot-three and 215 pounds. I also had zero issues with balance, dropping in, or pulling off quick turns.
The tester I rode in knee-to-chest-level waves had an epoxy nose and tail. Buy during our post-surf discussion, Meyerhoffer showed me his show board, which is a mix of traditional epoxy for the nose and a carbon fiber tail. Meyerhoffer’s plan is to custom build board sections for each buyer, depending on their needs.
The modular surfboard is priced at $1600 and is available to purchase directly from the official Thomas Meyerhoffer website which you can access via the link below.
